On November 10, 1975, the ore carrier S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald sank to the bottom of eastern Lake Superior with all its 29 officers and crew members aboard. No survivors were found.
This riveting documentary offers an explanation for why the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald suddenly broke apart and sank during one of the most terrible November gales ever. Based on interviews with maritime historians, ship captains, U.S. Coast Guard commanders, engineers, and the Canadian lighthouse keepers who were the last people to see the Fitzgerald from land.
On July 4, 1995, on behalf of some crew members' families, the Fitzgerald's ship's bell was raised and replaced with a memorial bell engraved with the names of all the crew members. A ceremony was held July 7, 1995 when the ship's bell was presented to the family members. A portion of the proceeds from sales of this video goes to a maritime charitable foundation.
